Still waiting on some clarity,
Some release from the myriad of voices that
Scream “madness” in my dreams.
Sleeping or waking, it’s all the same to me,
Same words,
Same sound,
Same dissonant harmony that keeps my hands pressed to my ears,
And my chest pressed to the ground.

There’s no escaping this.
No running from the swaying lament
Of the woman glancing out her window at night,
Staring out into the murky blue and black,
Singing “love me”.

No turning your back to the screech of a jeep skidding to a stop,
Its surface scorching from the desert sun,
Giving way to men that rain fire and brimstone,
Screaming “why” to the skies,
But only getting the same question in return.

Reality sings a louder song than the canvas that we paint on
In our heads.
That picture will always remain just that.
Picturesque
Nothing but a cardboard backdrop
That can’t drown out the siren song that this world sings.

But we drown out the sound
And stand these paintings up against the falling sky
Because it’s all we have now.
It’s all we can give.

snaps. oh man, snaps at

No running from the swaying lament
Of the woman glancing out her window at night,
Staring out into the murky blue and black,
Singing “love me”.

I felt that. In the gut.
