As I move through stagnant hallway chill,
I’m overcome with the loneliness of three story houses,
And anti-social families,
A dangerous mix
How useless it is,
To live in a world of unused wooden staircases
And shiny appliance,
Solar panels don’t fix wastefulness,
They are merely a reflective rectangular blanket,
Cover up,
We as humanity love swathing our mistakes
With shiny metal promises and asphalt acts of kindness.
As I watch the snow fall in dives of determination,
And bouts of lazy care-free swirls,
I can’t help but notice the tracks carved by human metal machine.
We disturb everything innocent,
With scrapes and tears across nature,
We burn everything we can light with a lick of ignorance
The flame is blue and green,
Salty like our tongues’ spit-fire
We sting the purest side of the world,
Taint it with black breath of pipes and furnace,
Painting sky a permanent charcoal gray,
To match the polluted seas and ash stained trees.
I’m waiting for the world to change.
I’m waiting for apocalypse.
I’m waiting for someone to realize that the concrete jungle they live in
Is not comparable to trees as tall as buildings and grass that paves forest road,
I’m waiting for people to realize that recycle is not only applicable to last season’s jeans,
I’m waiting for the polar bear carcass to wash up onto shore,
I’m waiting for people to see a rainbow and remember what it’s like to have color in the sky,
I’m waiting for people to remember how they should treat their mother… nature,
I’m honestly done waiting.
I’ve seen too much trash carelessly thrown out windows,
Too many sidewalks with the cigarettes mixed into cement,
Too many janitors ‘recycle’
Too many kids not know that Earth Day exists.
Here I am,
High and mighty,
Preacher for the lost tree-hugger souls,
When really I live with my laptop plugged in
I keep the heater on when I know it is damn cold outside,
I am hypocrite, hear me
Sigh.
In a world of imperfection,
I am sand through an hourglass.
By the minute I sift through the funnel,
Saving the planet,
Doing my part.
